Star Wars is tonight, and it's getting great reviews.
Someone commented on this site recently and stupidly archived everything when Movable Type rebuilt the pages.
So, consider this a placeholder.
Sorry, but I've been busy lately. No time to post.
Also, STAR WARS IS TONIGHT!
HOLY CRAP IM PUMPED!
Revenge of the Sith

I just got back from seeing Revenge of the Sith and wow.
It was intense, it was sad, it was tragic--it was everything I wanted to see.
You'll see the entire saga in a new light; Vader is such a tragic figure through the whole series now. Go see it.
I won't spoil it for you, you have to go see it.
Seriously. Go now. It's that good.
Wow.
More on Revenge

After lengthy discussions with friends about the cinematic spectacle we watched last night, I've made a few conclusions about the films which I'll detail below. Some minor spoilers follow.
The Dark Side is so the new Light Side.
Anakin isn't driven to evil by lust for power; he's a kid who makes a series of very bad decisions that end up having repercussions throughout the galaxy. He is motivated by a desire to do the right thing--poor Ani's just not good at selecting the right option.
Luke is whiny from the moment he's born.
I always suspected Mace Windu wasn't fond of Anakin; after Revenge of the Sith, I'm positive he hates him. Mace spends the better part of the movie being openly hostile to Anakin. Then again if you your lightsaber said "Bad-Ass Motherfucker" on it, don't you think a pretty boy would get on your nerves, too?
No one who'd notice would recognize the droids (R2-D2, C3PO) because most Republic citizens treat them like toasters with personality. While Anakin seems to give Artoo the respect he (rightly) deserves, Obi-Wan more or less treats the droid like a tool used to achieve an end. My point is further proven when Bail Organa later hands over the droids to Captain Antilles without so much as referring to them by name. You will also remember that Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi gives his droid friends to Jabba the Hutt (yes, he intended to get them back, but the fact he didn't tell them what he was up to sort of proves my point). I don't think people regard droids as much more than tools.
Vader should be seen as a tragic figure. He tried to do the right thing, but it all got screwed up. On the other hand, everything is Anakin's fault. Seriously, if Ani had ever seen an episode of That's So Raven, he'd know that madcap hijinx happen when you believe what happens in a vision.
Revenge would be the best Star Wars film if the Padme/Anakin relationship was for a minute believable. I found the friendship between Yoda and Chewbacca to be more heartfelt than Padme and Anakin's interaction.
Padme and Anakin's "secret" relationship is about as secret as Michael Jackson's love of young boys. It seems to me that everyone knows exactly what those two are up to--it's the secret that no one talks about.
While I'm on the subject of Padme and Anakin, did anyone else think that Anakin really wanted to say "Bitch, you said you were on the pill!" when Padme announces she's pregnant?
Obi-Wan is very proud of his former padawan. He treats him as an equal, as a friend, as a brother. It's obvious they're friends and that Obi-Wan trusts Anakin intimately--it's what makes the final confrontation between them so much sadder. Conversely, the Jedi Council as a whole excludes Anakin from just about every important decision. They don't share Obi-Wan's faith in the Chosen One.
Droid programmers have very dark senses of humor. Why else would you program a robot to scream when it gets killed?
If it takes twenty years to build the first Death Star, how come it takes less than five to build the second one?
The bat-people of Utapau need some Oil of Olay like you wouldn't believe. It dramatically eases the appearance of wrinkles. So I hear.
You know, I can probably go on about this for hours. I'm still in awe of the movie. It's so good! My only complaint is that there were no Mon Calamari Jedi.
Come on, think about it. Admiral Ackbar with a lightsaber. Tell me that wouldn't kick serious ass.
Love in the 21st Century

I'dtake this opportunity to comment on love in the 21st century, but I think this conversation recorded earlier tonight via IM sums it up better than anything I could ever come up with.
TNT: i hate computers
Ren: haha
TNT: but i wouldn't have a sex life without them
Stupid pigeons

I think I've made my position well known that I don't have a lot of respect for pigeons. There's a mating pair that seem to think my patio balcony would make a perfect place to raise a few chicks.
Uh. No.
See, my take on the whole thing is that I pay the rent here. If those birds would contribute (and keep their beaks shut the fuck up) I might consider subletting to them. But since they don't--and for that matter seem to love waking me up at 7 a.m. on the weekends with their horrible mating calls--I'm not going to let them.
Here's the thing: in the last month, they've built a nest at least ten or fifteen times. Every other day, I seem to have to go out there and sweep it off. It gets worse though. Twice, I've had to sweep an egg off!
I know, bad karma and all. Like I care. I'm already going to Hell for much worse transgressions. But seriously, I can't have those birds on my balcony. They've already pooped all over one of my patio chairs (totally ruining it) and seem to be intent on making a home out of my patio. No friggen way.
What I don't get is that they don't seem to realize that my patio may not be the best place. I mean, I sweep the damn nest off all the time, and yet they immediately go back to rebuilding it. They're tenacious little buggers.
That won't stop me though. I'm relentless in destroying their happy home.
Just today, I swept off the nest (yes, again) with an egg (yes, again) in it--the third time this month! It makes me feel terrible, but I'm not going to let those fucking birds nest in my patio.
If only they'd learn!
