In all the years I've been in college, in all the classes I've taken, of all the professors I've had, I have never felt such anger and held such resentment as I have today. I may be exaggerating becuase I'm upset, but it's becuase I'm so upset I'm using superlatives should indicate this ain't no ordinary rage.
Granted, I'm not in the greatest state right now. I stayed up all night working on the lab report that would not die (update: I finally gave up at 2 in the afternoon today and just fudged shit on it cuz I don't care much about it now) and helping a friend with a presentation. I'm stressed out about my graduation requirements in December. I've missed a couple of meals, I've been home alone in the House O' Scary Noises. But even with all that I prolly would've reacted the way I did.
My physics professor yelled at me. Sounds trivial, and yes, he's raised his voice to us before. He's belittled us, scoffed at our answers, waited inordinate amounts of time for us to flounder and come up with said answer, and then shot us down all over again. But when I ventured a simple "When moving from voltage D to voltage B, the charge on Q in the capacitor...", I got a loud "THERE IS NO MOVEMENT!!". A total, full-on, "you're-a-fucking-idiot" shout, directed to me and only me.
I felt a total rush of embarrasment, a heat flush in my face. I lowered my eyes and actually felt like crying. The tears were there. I was actually almost driven to tears by this pathetic semblance of a person, someone who eats, breathes, and shits physics, someone who got a hard-on from my shaming.
I try. I try really hard. No person has the right to make someone feel less that they are. No one. And the worst part? For all my wild delusions, he prolly doesn't even know he's fucking people up. He prolly doesn't even realize that, again, this is not our lives, that we may actually be interested in something else. This is the man who told us he does mental math problems for fun. And this is the man who made me shrivel in my seat? How fucking sad is that?
I had a wild daydream in a manner of seconds, mainly based on me getting up, storming to the door and saying to him "Since I'm dropping this class this very instant, I want to let you know that if you ever make another student feel like an incompetent infant, I'll slap a petition together and report your ass so fast it'll make your bald spot spin." Of course, as I'm prone to do, I'dve added more expletives, but I wouldn't waste those on the likes of him. Those are special words.
My day was ruined, all 20 minutes into it. 8:20 am. That's a new record for me. And if I'm blowing this out of proportion, ehh, it's already typed; upload, thank you, drive thru.
